Urban Decay: Naked2

After being offered a new job this week, I promised to treat myself to a little something.. Now I know I’m a tad late on this, but I chose to purchase the incredibly popular Urban Decay Naked2 palette. I read a review that the Naked2 palette is suited for blue eyes and they were spot on! It contains plenty of golds, taupes, and shimmery greys all ideal for enhancing anyone with baby blues eyes!

Hand Revival – Soap & Glory Hand Food

IMG_6736
I try my best to empty my handbag regularly – all women carry EVERYTHING with them for that ‘just in case’ moment…! However Soap & Glory’s ‘Hand Food’ cream is something that I always find an excuse to keep in my bag! It smells amazing, has a non-greasy formula that actually works and my hands always feel soft and moisturised even after the first application! I have also noticed that my cuticle and nails benefit an awful lot from this cream! Definitely worth keeping this one in your handbags ladies!!

You can buy Soap & Glory at your local Boots store (click here for the link)

Micellar Cleansing Water – Tried & Tested

You may or may not have heard of the new craze for taking off  your make up using Micellar Water… Just the name itself sounds like its not going to do the job ….but if you think like that you would be wrong……and trust me its worth a try! I have tried and tested Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water…..

Before I always used face wipes and the end of a long day at work  and would then use a separate cleanser and toner to remove my make up and the days impurities from my skin….however this handy all in one ‘magic water’ (that I like to call it) is perfect for removing make up, even stubborn eye mascara! Surprisingly when taking eye make up off, it does not sting or irritate the eye area like some face wipes can do. Face wipes are renowned for being harsh on your skin and can even cause spots and blemishes to spread. I am the first one to pick up the‘cheap’ face wipe option and we all know that the cheaper you go with these wipes the harsher they are on your face and skin!IMG_6263So it was a welcome change to only have one bottle to gently wipe away my makeup. Whilst not only removing my stubborn waterproof mascara it also cleansed and toned my skin without the greasy, oily feel that some cleansers or toners can leave behind. The 400ml bottle claims to provide up to 200 uses, and if you compare this to an average pack of 30-40 face wipes you can see that this bottle that really does it all ultimately it is going to save you money in the long run! I would say that one bottle lasts me around 4 weeks, and I don’t use the water sparingly as I like to ensure all my make up is off before bedtime! I buy cotton pads and saturate the cotton pad and sweep over my face using a circular motion to ensure I have removed all make up. I love the fact that the Micellar Water does not sting when taking off eye makeup and because it has no perfume or scent to cause irritation, it is even suitable to even the most sensitive of faces – amazing!

My Overall Verdict:

  • Cheaper compared to face wipes
  • 3 in 1 (Makeup remover, Cleanses & Tones skin)
  • Can be used on sensitive skin
  • Removes stubborn waterproof makeup
  • Less likely to cause spots/blemishes
  • Gentle on your skin
  • No oily or greasy feel left on your skin
  • Some brands are pricey – but will last longer than face wipes

For me I won’t be switching back to face wipes – I am officially a true “Micellar Water” convert….!!

You can buy Garnier Micellar Cleaning Water from your local Boots (priced at £4.99 for a 400ml bottle)

5 ***** Hair Product – TRESemmé Platinum Strength

It’s not often that I rave about hair products …. but TRESemmé Platinum Strength is something that I now cannot live without. I picked this up in Superdrug when I was looking for a heat protection spray and this was on offer (2 for £7 on all TRESemmé products) .

The PROMISE…

TRESemmé Platinum Strength claims to “visibly repair up to 2 years of damage within 5 uses” with its revolutionary Renewing Complex it supposedly reinforces the hairs natural protective layer.

The VERDICT…

I am my hairs worst enemy …running straighteners through my hair on a daily basis so after just 2 uses I was shocked to notice that my hair felt softer and looked tonnes healthier! I am the first one to be sceptical about products that claim to promise unimaginable results, but so far this little bottle can’t fail for me! It smells delicious and is easy to apply to wet or damp hair. Even when not on offer I will still be buying this little hair saver regardless (RRP £5.99)

It definitely earns 5 stars from me!

The “must have” Foundation Brush

Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to how they apply their foundation. Some prefer a sponge whilst others (like myself) prefer to use a brush. I find using a brush is quicker, less messy and ensures you have an even coverage. I myself have invested in many foundation brushes over the years but my favourite is definitely the ‘stippler’ brush (pictured below). With this brush it is almost impossible to get that awful ‘jaw line’ look that you may notice when someone hasn’t blended their foundation in correctly.

Having always invested in MAC Makeup brushes, I never imagined switching to another brand. That was until I misplaced my trusty MAC brush and in a rush to get a replacement to be going on with, I popped into my local Wilkinson’s store.

Foundation Brush

Priced at £4 I wasn’t expecting this brush to even last or be of any real use, but how wrong was I…!!? The brush is super soft and does not malt as I would have expected it to, considering the price! It creates a great even coverage and the angle of the brush allows you to create depth with you foundation if you require. It is a perfect size and allows you to sweep into the corners of your eyes with no problem. Overall I would say that I find it better than my old MAC foundation brush!

Carrie’s Tips for Looking after your MakeUp Brushes

  • Wash all brushes once a week
  • Dilute baby shampoo in warm water and submerge your brushes
  • Allow your brushes to dry naturally, although if in a rush dry under your hairdryer on a cool setting at a distant (you want to protect your bristles as much as possible)
  • If in a rush you can use baby or face wipes to clean your makeup brushes

Carrie’s Verdict: 9/10

For the price alone the quality of this brush is a true ‘must have’ or at least a ‘must try’. I just hope that Wilko’s other makeup brushes are as good, as I will definitely be going back to buy some more!
